The Windows 10 backup system does work, but I was unsatisfied with my control over what was happening, and for some reason it was sometimes missing current file, and seems to ignore "backup now" instructions sometimes. On macOS 10.13 or higher, click 'View' in the upper left and select 'Show All Devices'. Seagate disk is not detected in Disk Utility: see the System Information/System Profiler section. Seagate Manager just stopped working, because it could no longer see the drive after Windows 10, even though Windows 10 sees it fine. Seagate drive is not showing on desktop : check Disk Utility: open Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. I've had a 1Tb FreeAgent Drive that I've used for generation backup of development files and some personal data for years. I can also confirm that the software Steven linked is working for me. There are less expensive options out there if you're going to have to pay for the software anyway. You can use a program like Seagate Disc Wizard Ver 10 for Win XP or Seagate DiscWizard Ver 13 for Win 7 which also handles drives that are 2.2 GB capacity. Aesthetically the silver seagate freeagent go nicely complements the aluminum macbook pro. I considered buying a new base but the cost is only a little less than a different EHD. The seagate freeagent goflex is one of the fastest portable usb 3.0 drives money can buy. I have a 2 TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex EHD that gave an intermittent response to File Explorer. The backup software used to be included with the purchase of their external drives. I dont find this model on the Win10 compatibility list but there are some very similar. My original 2008 was replaced in 2012 with model ST305004FDAIEI-RK. I noticed that my FreeAgent desktop external drive is not recognized by the system.
ETA - I just realized that this is the #$%# paid version of the software, which Seagate at some point started doing. I have installed Win 10 with some problems but most of it is settling down now.
